October has arrived and the game release schedule is filling up quickly. The next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft and the games that come with them will not arrive until next month, but October still offers some important releases like Crash Bandicoot 4, Star Wars: Squadrons and Watch Dogs: Legion. It is also a particularly busy month for indies, with the ghostly mystery I Am Dead, the exorcism adventure Lucifer Within Us and The Escapists spinoff, The Survivalists, all worth taking a look at.

[notice] THE MAIN [/ notice]

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (Xbox One and PS4 - October 2)

After more than a decade without new games (remasters aside), everyone's favorite marsupial is back with Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. The new Crash offers the same linear 3D platform footprint that fans know and love, along with some new powers and a ton of content - in addition to the main stages of the game, there are many side levels and N. Verted mode, which mixes levels in creative ways. Crash Bandicoot 4 should offer more challenges than many of the classic Crash games combined.

Star Wars: Squadrons (PC, Xbox One and PS4 - October 2)

EA's track record with Star Wars games has been mixed, but they are looking to end this generation on a high with Star Wars: Squadrons, a space shooter of a type we haven't seen in a long time. Squadrons is a surprisingly detailed sci-fi space simulator, requiring you to manage multiple systems while playing in battles as pilots for the Rebels and Empire. Of course, the real focus of the game is multiplayer, as you will face opponents in 5v5 duels in fleet battles. Star Wars: Squadrons may not be the deepest game, but it looks like it may be the closest that EA has come to actually capturing the excitement of the films.

FIFA 21 (PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch - October 8; Xbox One X / S, PS5 and Stadia - later in 2020)

The most popular sports franchise in the world is back for another round. This has been a strange transition year for most sports franchises, but EA is still promising new features for FIFA 21, including improved dribbling and attacking moves, more depth for career mode and more. But if you're a FIFA fan, you'll probably buy it anyway.

Amnesia: Rebirth (PC and PS4 - October 20)

A decade ago Amnesia: The Dark Descent helped redefine the survival horror genre, inspiring countless titles, and now Frictional Games developers are finally producing a suitable sequel to the game (Amnesia: Machine for Pigs has been outsourced to a developer different). Amnesia: Rebirth takes place in more modern times in the Algerian desert, but on the other hand, it seems to provide the same "peek and scream" gameplay as the original. I'm sure some streamers are already training their screams.

Watch Dogs: Legion (PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Stadia - October 29; Xbox Series X / S - November 10; PS5 - November 12)

After several delays, Watch Dogs: Legion finally arrives later this month. For those not following, Legion lets you take on the role of just about any NPC you meet on the street in a dystopian London. Play a mission as a gentle lady, a football hooligan or beekeeper who battles high-tech nanobows, just to name a few. Watch Dogs has always struggled to establish itself as a top-tier Ubisoft franchise, but this could be its breakthrough moment.

The Dark Pictures: Little Hope (PC, Xbox One and PS4 - October 30)

The first game in the Supermassive Games' The Dark Pictures Anthology series, Man of Medan, was promising. Based on some of the footage shown, it appears that they softened the violence for the second game, Little Hope. The premise is certainly more promising, as the game follows a group of college students who are trapped in the main town of Little Hope, which has a dark history of black magic and witch hunts. Of course, the macabre acts of the past cast a huge shadow!

Pikmin 3 Deluxe (Switch - October 30th)

Pikmin 3 was, for many, the best reason to own a Wii U. The Pikmin series has struggled a little over the years to find its true identity, but Pikminmin 3 strikes the perfect balance between strategy, puzzle solving and exploration. Each of the game's levels is beautiful and beautifully crafted, with each enemy and secret perfectly placed for maximum satisfaction. And now the entire campaign can be played in cooperation with a friend! Pikmin may be small, but this fantastic adventure is huge.

I Am Dead (PC and switch - October 8)

The title says it all! I Am Dead is a new game by artist Richard Hogg of Hohokum and Loot Rascals developer Hollow Ponds. This seems to have a bit of a Majora’s Mask feel, while you play as a recently deceased ghost who has to save a picturesque ocean village that is about to be consumed by a volcanic eruption. If you like a good British seaside mystery now and then, I think this is the game for you.

The Survivalists (PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch - October 9)

A new offshoot of The Escapists franchise, The Survivalists swaps those monotonous prison walls for a tropical paradise, although you won't be relaxing. Players are tasked with creating and surviving on their procedurally generated desert island ... with the help of an army of trained monkeys. Don't worry, monkeys are not your only friends, as you can also join three other players for a little cooperative survival.

Lucifer Within Us (PC - October 15)

It's the perfect time of year for good old-fashioned exorcism! Lucifer Within Us is a new detective game with a twist, as players take on the role of a "digital exorcist" who must collect clues, interrogate suspects and then dive into their minds and purge their demons. Despite the tense concept, Lucifer Within Us really does appear to be a reasonably grounded detective game that promises "real mystery solving" without "QTEs, random puzzles or minigames". Are you able to corner the devil?

Crown Trick (PC and Switch - October 16)

Crown Trick is a classic turn-based roguelike with a charming hand-drawn art style. Don't be fooled by the cute look of the game, there's a lot of depth here, as players can wield hundreds of unique weapons and relics and build their own combat style using various skills. You need to be aware, as the game has more than 100 different types of enemies, more than 10 challenging bosses and many puzzles. Yes, roguelikes are many today, but not all are the same. Fortunately, Crown Trick seems to have a particularity.

Carto (PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch - October 27)

If you are fascinated by video game maps (like me), then this is for you. Carto's map is divided into blocks, something like a classic Zelda game, with the difference that you have the ability to move and flip blocks, even as you move through them. You will unlock additional pieces of the map as you progress, and manipulating them will unlock new paths, puzzles and moments in history. Plan a course for adventure!
