#Articles | Western RPGs, JRPGs, Action RPGs and others are on the list
Renatitoem

Once again we are gathered to list the best games of the generation. Today is the turn of RPGs, a genre that is more of a niche, but with a passionate fan base. The Role Playing Game has survived time, is still alive today, unlike the hack n 'slash that are increasingly scarce. There were many games of this type during this generation, catering to various tastes and various needs. This is the ideal time to remember the best RPGs and make you know some games, if they have gone unnoticed by you during these years. Who knows, maybe this list will arouse the desire to play some of them?

The JRPGs weakened in the past generation, but in the current generation they came back with everything, with good titles being launched and making their presence felt in this article. Western RPGs remain strong, being the majority on the list. Action RPGs didn't do well either; you can count on their presence too. Before going to the list, some important warnings:

[alert] IMPORTANT POINTS [/ alert]

  1. You will definitely miss some titles. Games like The Witcher 3, Disco Elysium and others will not be here because they have been mentioned in other lists. Our intention is to mention the largest number of games in different lists, thus giving space to everyone. Many already know, but it is always good to repeat for those who still do not know what the footprint of our special items is like.
  2. The criteria for the selected games is based on our opinion and personal experiences. It is impossible to please everyone, so disagree politely.
  3. The list is arranged in alphabetical order.

[notice] THE BEST 15 [/ notice]

Renatito | Bloodborne

After making three games with the same footprint (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2), FromSoftware has shown that it can reinvent itself and create other possibilities within the very style of RPG that it created, the "Souls "- now called by others" "i [Soulsborne ". Bloodborne is not only a Dark Souls with a darker theme: it has its own identity. The dodge will be your best friend at the time of combat, because here it is essential to use this ability, since we have practically no shields in the game (there are only 2 and are used for almost nothing). Here the player is rewarded for attacking, attacking and attacking. Forget the defensive tactics you may have used in the developer's other games.

Yharnam, the city where the game takes place, manages to be both beautiful and intimidating at the same time. Unlike the medieval environments seen in the first Souls games, here the player will find urban environments very similar to the Victorian England, that is, the Middle Ages leave and the Contemporary Age enters. You really feel back then, thanks to the beautiful art work of the game team aided by the graphics of the current generation of consoles. Bosses are very striking in this game, they are on the same level or even to a higher degree than other games from From. Expect a lot of blood, bizarre creatures and a dark world. Bloodborne is a must-have game for fans of Souls games.

Vini | Dark Souls III

Are you prepared to die? This famous series from From Software debuted with everything in the new generation. The last game in the Dark Souls franchise may not have revolutionized the formula, but it fulfilled its role perfectly as the outcome of the trilogy. Although it brings several improvements to the franchise, fans of the series will feel at home.

The combat is more refined than ever, implementing many of the things the developer has learned over the years, including inspirations in Bloodborne. The gameplay is more varied and with a unique style, but without losing its essence. The variety of bosses and scenarios is just right in this game. There is also a lot of fanservice for longtime fans, who are sure to be thrilled in certain parts of the game.

Billy | Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Second game in the trilogy created by Eidos Montréal, Mankind Divided is a direct sequence of the events of Human Revolution, launched in 2011, where the new protagonist of the Deus Ex franchise is Adam Jensen. With this sequence, the company did not want to revolutionize or implement something completely different from the previous game, but to perfect what went wrong, and refine what worked.

This is not a bad thing, in fact, it is excellent, and it brought a very familiar air to the new formula for the franchise, solidifying it with the own vision that Eidos wanted to bring to the game. Its plot runs through the year 2029, with Adam in search of what happened in his mission in Dubai, two years after the previous game.

In the year in which the game takes place, Biotechnology has already advanced even more than in Human Revolution, making humans "perfected" in something natural to be found on a daily basis, however, after a case of Hacking in the metallic body units, fthey caused these perfected beings to lose their sense of empathy or remorse, to become aggressive, and even to kill other people, whether they are their relatives or not.

As for gameplay, like the other games in the series, Deus Ex is a FPP RPG (First Person Perspective - Role Playing Game) of Shooting, focused on the Stealth style of game in Open World. You will have a series of equipment to use in combat against your opponents, be they Firearms, Lethal Weapons and Melee Weapons, such as rifles, shotguns, blades, knives, grenades, and of course, as Adam is an enhanced, he too contains special powers such as Invisibility, Gamma Ray, Sound Detector, Double Jump, Bonus Resistance, etc.

You will have a large skill tree with improvements and other measures that you can shape to your taste, as well as an inventory that you will use to store items, assemble puzzles, collect medical kits, and other options. As a complete game, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is an evolution in narrative and gameplay terms, but it lacks the length and content factor, as it suffers from an excess of DLC's, Expansions, Content stuck to Mobile Games, such as Deus Ex GO , and Micro-Transactions.

It is a solid experience if you are willing to buy the complete edition (with promotion) which will include the game, its contents, in addition to the mobile game, to have the definitive experience that is necessary for it, but I guarantee that it is a refined game that will bring great hours of fun and immersion. Detail, although today is better, the PC version of the game is known to be one of the heaviest and poorly optimized for the system, so it is recommended to have strong specifications to support the game.

Billy | Diablo III

After many years of waiting, Diablo III, the long-awaited sequel to the classic Diablo II, was released in 2012 on the PC, and in 2013 reached the next generation consoles of the time, being considered by Blizzard as the 'The Next-Gen of Diablo Series. ' This time, the game was not developed by Blizzard North, which closed in 2005, but by Blizzard San Francisco.

In technical terms, Diablo III brings a very fast and fluid gameplay, as well as fun, whether for experienced players with the franchise, or newcomers who are coming to it now. As it is an ARPG in Asymmetric view, the game has its limitations in terms of animations and photo-realistic graphics, but that was never the focus of the Diablo franchise.

Its plot takes place in Sanctuary, the dark fantasy world of the Diablo series, twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Deckard Cain and Leah are at the Cathedral of Tristram (the same cathedral that was the setting for Diablo I), investigating ancient texts about a sinister prophecy. A mysterious star falling from the sky hits the Cathedral, creating a deep crater in which Deckard Cain disappears, and from there, everything takes place.

As quoted by Diablo III director Jay Wilson, Blizzard San Francisco had in mind to make the franchise more accessible to casual gamers, aiming to expand the range of target audiences that Diablo III could reach, and for that, its systems of progression and difficulty were radically facilitated, making the experience easy for many.

Despite this flaw, the game has a lot of content and will guarantee many hours of adventure, and its plot, despite being slightly more "friendly" and less bloody and heavy, manages to be strong enough to trap the player in that dark world in which Diablo III lives on, and of course, I can't forget, his DLC / Expansion, Reaper of Soul, further improves the flaws of the original game.

Vini | Divinity: Original Sin 2

When it comes to RPG in its literal sense, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the best you'll find on the market. In the first game, Larian Studios had already proven that it understood the genre, but in that sequence the studio managed to excel. The game features a huge amount of content, giving the player a lot of freedom to create and develop their character, from small personality traits to complex skill builds.

Its turn-based combat forces the player to use his head, having to prepare beforehand and create strategies in real time. Preparation is the key to success here. Best of all, you can enjoy the coop game campaign, as well as a Game Master mode, where you can create your own story as in a table RPG.

Dreadnaught | Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is a game in which you encourage you to have a personal relationship with it, well, this is Bethesda's standard idea when it comes to RPG games (Role Play Game). From experience, I had a good time with the game, I was always an adventurous player, making the most of what the franchise can offer and entertain. Maybe it's fair to say that Fallout 4 is a Skyrim with weapons (due to the fact that both uthe same engine for many years), it manages to have its charm and an original attraction, giving the player more freedom to make their choices that will give a final result to the game and also attitudes and strategies during their gameplay, however, this freedom has a small obstacle, only when Preston Garvey asks you to babysit the Settlements he marks on his Pip-Boy.

The game has a relatively simple gameplay, with several perks, which in parts are unnecessary for use, charismatic and striking characters for the franchise and countless hours of fun. Unfortunately, their expansions are very weak, offering few hours of content charging a very high price on the base game. But, as I am a type of player who has no problem with slightly altering the gameplay of the game, I used a lot of mods, one half in cosmetics and the other half with the addition of weapons and mechanics. absurd addition of content and more ways to play. Thanks to this, Fallout 4 (also as Skyrim) is always played countless times with content created by the community that extends the game's life forever.

Dreadnaught | Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter World was one of Capcom's biggest surprises, after its run of bad luck in games that weren't very successful, this time hitting the spotlight on the RPG of the latest Monster Hunter franchise. Thus, the game has a touch of Hack 'n' Slash and Souls Like, a mixture of both that was super welcome to the game, offering a great dash of action, adventure and exploration to the New World where the story of the franchise. In the same way, you have the free customization of your character, as well as your strategies in gambling, possessing countless ways to face giant reptiles and feared creatures that dominate that region, helping scientists in their expeditions to study the colossal living beings that inhabit there.

Of personal taste, I will always appreciate the customization of your characters, making the player create a bond with him. The game is relatively large, appearing not to be very friendly for new players, in which they are bombarded with a lot of information, giving a confusion about where to start, it is common, but a little discouraging. Maybe I am being very expressive, seeing that like any RPG game, you always need to acquire resources in missions in order to progress in the game with better equipment, something totally common in these types of games, the famous farming. In this regard, it is even balanced, and also a very positive point to the game is the question of being able to play cooperatively, a crucial key factor to guarantee your success and that of your friends in the face of wild and colossal opponents, I can guarantee that Monster Hunter World will arrest you as a super energetic game with countless hours of content and expansions, and if you are a lover of reptiles and cats, this will be your dream of consumption! Did I already say that Palicoes (anthropomorphic cats) are so cute?

Vini | Ni No Kuni 2

If you are a fan of animations like My Friend Totoro or Spirited Away, Ni No Kuni 2 is an indispensable game for you. Although the game no longer relies on the collaboration of Studio Ghibli as the first game, it still retained much of the essence of the studio's animations.

The game combines several different elements. It features real-time action combat and an Overworld in the style of classic JRPGs. A great addition to the first game is a kingdom building and management system, where you create buildings and upgrade them, feeling like a real monarch.

Billy | Nioh 2

Direct sequel to the original 2017 game, NiOh 2 (or Ni-oH 2), is an Action RPG game in the Souls-Borne genre, where the focus is on long-term gameplay and progression, and in that, Team Ninja did something with mastery, bringing a robust experience in the segment.

As in the original, players can create their own playable character, who was a Yōkai spirit. Players are equipped with a variety of weapons, such as Odachi and Kusarigama, and gain new skills as they progress through the game. When players defeat a hostile Yōkai, some of them can take down a "Soul Core".

They allow players to use the Yōkai's skills and transform into a Yōkai after being deposited in a shrine. This is very important to be mastered throughout the game, as it will help you due to the difficulty of the game.

Its plot serves more as a ground cloth for all the action to follow, and as in the Souls-Borne games developed by FromSoftware, it has a lot of tactics and strategy to use your skills and fight your enemies and bosses in the right way, as a false step , and you die.

Despite maintaining its style as the original, with extra tunings, and the adoption of a more diversified progression system and with more options, NioH 2 is a great RPG experience that easily after finished will bring you great hours to seek a Platinum, which always makes it fun and challenging.

Vini | Persona 5

What started as a simple spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, ended up becoming a very successful series of its own. Persona 5 puts you in the role of a young man frowned upon by society who needs to divide his time between taking care of his social life, making friends and doing well at school, and stealing the hearts of criminals. The game brought great improvements to the series, with random dungeons being left out, introducing handmade palaces with diverse themes consistent with each of the villains. The soundtrack is another charm of the game, with songs that perfectly match the theme of the game.

However, the great highlight of the game is due to its style. Everything here oozes style, from its menu to the combat. And speaking of combat, it's probably the most dynamic turn-based combat you'll see, I highly recommend it even to those who aren't fans of the style. I guarantee that you will feel part of the Phantom Thieves, an incredible group of super charismatic characters.

Vini | Pillars of Eternity

Pillars of Eternity was a game that filled the void that Baldur's Gate and other CRPGs left, serving as a kind of spiritual successor. The game had a very successful campaign on Kickstarter, raising more than $ 4 million, a record for the time.

Coming from Obsidian we would already know that something good would come. Pillars of Eternity has given us a rich world, with a deep lore for players to dive into. The game offers a huge variety of quests and choices. It is a real tribute to the RPGs of the 90s. Its sequence brought an even more polished game, with a more refined combat.

Renatito | South Park: The Stick of Truth

South Park: The Stick of Truth is based on the American humor series (very acid humor, by the way), with The New Kid being the protagonist. The game is a mad war involving fantasy, humans, wizards and elves, fighting for control of the almighty stick of truth (Stick of Truth). When I said crazy, it's really crazy, wait for aliens, Nazi zombies and gnomes, threatening the entire city with chaos and destruction. Evidently it's not a game to be right, it's just to laugh.

The game is in a 2.5D perspective, as the intention is to reproduce and replicate the aesthetics of the series. The New Kid is able to freely explore the city of South Park, interacting with the characters and performing missions and accessing new areas as they progress through the main story. You can choose between Fighter, Thief, Mage and Jew (lol), each offering specific abilities, being able to perform melee, ranged, magical attacks and even a fart to fight your enemies. South Park: The Stick of Truth is unique, mixing 2.5D RPG with lots of humor. It is a game with identity that is worth checking out.

Dreadnaught | The Outer Worlds

It's kind of unfair to be able to give an opinion on the game, because I confess that I had few gameplays of the same (being more than 10 hours of gambling), The Outer Worlds is an FPS RPG from Obsidian, a former Bethesda subsidiary, that has become an interesting and original bet. As you know, the company that made the game was responsible for Fallout New Vegas, it is already possible to imagine a game that has a great focus on dialogues. Who doesn't like to hear a good story? I certainly like it, but deep down it can end up trapping you in various parts of the game, forcing you to be rooted there reading, listening, making choices and so on. And it is so much information that it can lead to important moments of the game in which the player, through carelessness and mild boredom, can end with a relatively frustrating experience. And as a complement, you can customize your character, only that you don't see him during conversations or cinematics, something meaningless.

But do you think I'm overreacting? Perhaps, but it is an experience being portrayed by me, I am not preventing you from enjoying The Outer Worlds, but due to the basic nature of the human being, a good part wants to go around killing all the NPCs that are out there, and it is possible in this game? Yes, and will it give you an ending you don't expect? Perhaps ... because the game is to be played calmly and strategically. After acquiring a private ship, you will recruit members, being pre-defined characters and with a charismatic character who have always judged their actions, being positive and negative, and remembering, be careful that they can leave forever if you hurt them . In general, as a Sci-Fi game, it can easily deliver unique and rich environmentsthose in life, with the primary focus being on excessive dialogue and also gameplay with standard combat for an FPS.

Billy | Tom Clancy's: The Division

As a very fond fan of Tom Clancy's universe, whether in the writer's books, or in his game franchises, such as Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon, when The Division was presented in 2013 during Ubisoft's E3, it seemed to me something very innovative and that would definitely reshape the gaming industry.

Well, 3 years have passed since its announcement until its official launch, and although it is called many as a Disappointment, the game brings its interesting and fun factors, associated with a strong immersion brought by the universe in which it takes place.

The Division was developed by Massive Entertainment, a studio owned by Activision, producers of the RTS World in Conflict franchise, which were acquired by Ubisoft in 2008, and have since been dedicated to creating this ambitious New IP for the 8th Generation of Consoles.

The game is an Online RPG experience in the Open World, under the roof of the Looter-Shooter genre, where games like Destiny, Anthem and Marvel's Avengers live. Its plot begins between the years 2002-2014, where the events of Direct 51, Breakdown Attack and Black Friday happen.

Basically and briefly, a Virus very similar to the Flu started to infest itself in New York, USA, during the week of Black Friday, when more than 100 million inhabitants were in a large cluster to go shopping at the end of the year. .

This virus, which has no cure, generates terrible symptoms in people, leading to their death, and as many people began to become infected very quickly due to the agglomeration of the end of the year, it led the USA to enter a complete state of Pandemic World and Global, with the Dollar falling in price, people surviving a country now in complete decline of survival, and Quarantines that were previously needed to prevent the virus from spreading and being undone to try to find a new direction in life.

With all this chaos going on, 'The Division', an elite that was assigned to combat and control this whole situation, is called on duty to bring back New York now in complete collapse, and you, the player, are a of these members.

Like other games of the genre, you can perform your missions alone, or in Co-Op for up to 4 players, where you have the main story line, and the secondary missions. As a survival game in Open World, you have an inventory and collect resources over a long journey that varies from 25 to 30 hours, with a progression system based on Levels, which makes enemies "bullet sponges" . "

As a means of transportation, you will have only your legs, exploring the great and vast world of The Division just walking, and your biggest rival in the plot is Aaron Kenner, formerly a member of the Division, now he just wants to cause chaos and cause innocent deaths for your anarchy.

Yes, the game can become somewhat repetitive, but its gameplay and technical terms help to make it easier, in a very smooth and practical game, which uses unique systems for viewing and locating specific points to enter combat and return to your base.

The Division also has some investigative missions that involve platforming and strategy scenes, which make it more versatile in terms of fun. Its graphic part, despite having suffered Downgrade when compared to what was announced in 2013, is still very strong, being a very photorealistic and immersive game, with a context and heavy plot that make The Division something that despite bittersweet for some, it is very rewarding in the long run.

Billy | Vampyr

Developed by Dontnod, the same for games like Remember Me, Life is Strange and Tell Me Why, here, the French woman created an Action and Adventure RPG set in a modernist time with a fantasy aspect, in this case, a Vampire RPG.

Vampyr has certain flaws regarding its combat and exploration, which are rewarded for its very well written and developed history, and its strong and well-constructed Soundtrack, making it very engaging.

In the game, you are Jonathan Reid, a doctor who ends up becoming one of the 'Leech', a Vampire, and ends up killing one of his loved ones due to his hunger for blood. Reid ends up being sought out and hunted by Geoffrey McCullum's patrol, despite trying to prove himself innocent, and he risks trying to find a cure anyway.

Vampyr's Combat is a mixture of Tactics with Hack n 'Slash Tapped, in a slower game and based on reaction and attack time, which did not please the players so much, that they found the system easy or somewhat broken.

Despite this, he has many moments where you act more quickly, as your powers as a Vampire evolves, and make the experience worse.is… dynamic.
