Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk became the third richest person in the world on Monday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, after Tesla Inc.'s shares soared by 12% in the United States United.
Musk's net worth reached $ 115 billion, thus surpassing the $ 111 billion Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's fortune, which went to fourth in the ranking.
This year, Musk's fortune registered a significant increase of $ 76 billion, driven by Tesla's shares, which have advanced more than 475% since January.
To become the richest person in the world, however, Musk still has a long way to go. Jeff Bezos, who is at the top of the list, reached a net worth of more than $ 200 billion at the end of August, making him the richest person in the world, according to Forbes.
Last week, the founder of Tesla had already become one of the four centibilionários in the world, term used to define who has an equity above US $ 100 billion. That list includes Bezos, Bill Gates and Zuckerberg.
Their gains, however, go against the economic losses caused by the pandemic. According to Bloomberg, the fortunes of the 500 richest people in the world increased by $ 809 billion in 2020 alone, an increase of 14% since January.
