India on Wednesday banned yet another wave of apps developed by Chinese companies, citing concerns about digital security and the country's sovereignty.

There were more than 100 apps, including the famous game PUBG and the search engine Baidu.

The decision comes a day after India accused China of causing new tensions in the border region.

India's Foreign Ministry said Chinese troops had carried out "provocative actions" in the mountainous Himalayan region, which is disputed by the two countries.

The Indian government statement cites "complaints from several sources" about allegedly sending data from Android and iPhone application users to "locations outside India".

In June, the country banned 59 applications, mostly Chinese, including TikTok, UC Browser from Alibaba and WeChat from Tencent. That ban came just days after a border conflict between the two countries, in which 20 Indian military personnel died.

Among the smartphone apps that have been banned this time are the popular PUBG game. The game's facilities in India account for more than a quarter of the title's total player base, according to research firm Sensor Tower.

PUBG, also known as PlayerUnknown, is a game in which players are launched on an island full of weapons and must battle for survival, in battle royale style, similar to other successes like Fortnite.

Other prohibited services were the Chinese search engine Baidu, the Alipay payment service, the WeChat Work corporate collaboration solution and a VPN solution to access TikTok, which was already banned.

"In the interest of India's sovereignty and integrity, in defense of India and state security. And using the powers of sovereignty, the government of India has decided to block the use of certain apps," says the Indian statement.
