The company spent about its first 3 years of life acting as independents, creating the game Death Rally, until joining Rockstar Studios and creating Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2.
After that, they headed back alone until they signed a 15-year partnership agreement with Microsoft Gaming's Xbox in 2006, where together, both companies brought Alan Wake, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Quantum Break, and in 2020, together will bring Crossfire X.
Despite its ties to Microsoft, the company remains independent, and in 2019 it brought to life the award-winning Control game, which has been expanding so far.
The company's next title, (other than Crossfire X) will be published by Epic Games, while Sam Lake's new game continues in development with no current release deadline.
Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, and very close to the studio for having maintained his strong ties with Finland, congratulated and celebrated this milestone with Remedy, in which even Sam Lake thanked him.
