In its official blog, Microsoft officially confirmed that it is in the process of acquiring the social network TikTok in the United States.
This came after 3 days of rumors about the Redmond giant talking about acquiring the entire social network, but it appears that its efforts are for acquisition in specific countries, not as a whole.
In a statement, Microsoft Corp. says:
"He is committed to acquiring TikTok, subject to a thorough security review and providing adequate economic benefits to the United States, including the United States Treasury."
The process is being done with the owner of TikTok, which is the Chinese ByteDance, and this acquisition should go through these transition plans until September 15, 2020.
Microsoft also said it was talking to ByteDance about the company abandoning ownership of the social network in the Canadian, Australian and New Zealand markets, possibly being acquired by either Microsoft or another American company.
Microsoft says it wants to ensure that:
"To the extent that this data is currently stored or backed up outside the United States, Microsoft will ensure that that data is deleted from servers outside the country after the transfer."
"Microsoft appreciates the personal involvement of the government and President Donald Trump, while continuing to develop strong security protections for the country."
Microsoft promises to talk more about this topic throughout the week, and the next major acquisitions that the company still intends to make in 2020, both in the fields of technology, hardware, interactive entertainment (games), artificial intelligence and cloud data (Azure).
