‘Dune’ could become as big a franchise as ‘The Lord of the Rings’ says art director

During an interview with KIDS FIRST! Film Critics, Tom Brown was very confident in the potential of ‘Dune’. The film's art director believes the franchise could become as big as ‘The Lord of the Rings’.

“I believe what Denis Villeneuve is doing with 'Dune' can be called a seminal version of the story. I don't think it will be overcome by another adaptation, being totally honest. ”

Said.

“The scope of this production is huge. I feel like they have something special about this project. It can be as big as ‘The Lord of the Rings’. I really believe that. I am confident that it will be placed on the same level as these large franchises. ”

The cast features Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Harkonnen's monstrous nephew, Rabban, Javier Bardem as Stililgar, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck.

Duna is due to hit theaters in December, and tells a story of intrigue and betrayal, while rival houses vie for power within an interstellar society. The script for the film was written by Denis Villeneuve, Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.

The work was already adapted in 1984 by director David Lynch. The film is a cult classic, but many feel they fail to capture the intricacies of Frank Herbert's novel.
